Hi I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my x64 PC. I use an EPSON WF-3540. It worked fine under W8.1. Since upgrading, I have problems with all aspects of printing. The Control Panel 'printers and devices' hangs. Hitting 'print' causes Word to freeze ('not responding'). I have updated drivers from EPSON's website, these problems continue - the driver package I download here: does not install fully, it stops at 20% every time I try.
EPSON's printer finder sees the networked printer and the printer itself works fine as a scanner (using third party software to scan). I have tried the troubleshooter, but that also hangs while checking for Spooler service errors In each case, where it is hanging, the only way to make it stop is to reboot the PC. Issue you have experienced might due to incompatible drivers. I can understand that it must be difficult for you when things are not working as it should.
Try these methods if problem still persist now or in future, and check it helps. Method 1: You may update the Printer driver from Device Manager manually and check if this helps. A) Open run command by pressing Windows key + R and type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes) and hit Enter. B) Spot and expand the “Printer Drivers”. Right click on the video driver and select “Update Driver Software”. Once this is done, restart the computer to check the problem fixed.
Method 2: If there no updated drivers available on the computer manufacturer’s website, then trying installing it in compatibility mode. Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.
Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.
Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Once again, I cannot print and I cannot access my 'printers and devices' on control panel, as the system hangs. Can you give me any other fixes? This means nothing to me, but perhaps it will to someone. UPDATE (1): I had a pdf editor (Nitro Pro 10) that had a Word plugin. It turns out that this was not compatible with Windows 10. Uninstalling this and reinstalling the Epson software package has - for the time being - fixed this (again).
