Actually, it did warn us a few days before it refused to print. And my 1st wife did phone HP. And after threatening to rip their faces off, HP did 'overnight' us 2 new cartridges fee of charge. However, I doubt they will accomodate the next time. I have spent a considerable amount of time on the web and the usenet researching this issue. I have not gotten a line of anyone yet who has hacked this printer driver.
One fellow said it was costing his company lots of money replacing expired cartridges and was, himself, wondering if there was some way to get around the problem. My current spouse is my 1st wife.
